One of the most exciting new services Beaufox offers is our amazing 3D printing service. We use this to produce prototypes quickly and inexpensively, and thoroughly test product parts often, with accuracy.
Our up-to-date industry knowledge and our staff members, who are WA's leading experts on the subject of 3D printing, can add significant value to your manufacturing process with this new, exciting technique.
3D printing was invented in 1983 by Chuck Hull, but until recently the technology has not been fully viable from both a cost and a capability perspective. 3D printing holds the advantage of being quicker and less expensive for printing prototypes than many traditional manufacturing techniques, and is able to produce customised products in small volumes at lower costs. Experts predict the 3D printing market to be worth USD $8.6 billion by 2020, with the prospect of more flexibility in product manufacturing and prototyping fueling demand from various industries.
So far, a number of interesting products have been prototyped and manufactured, with 3D printing being utilised by industries as diverse as medical, defence, consumer products and both the automotive and aerospace industry. Not only is 3D printing useful in cutting prototyping costs, but it is able to create a number of complex products that were previously difficult to produce. Some of these include a fully-functional human kidney by Boston-based biomedical company Organovo, a handgun (which has since been declared illegal by the United States Department of State), an acoustic guitar, a stainless steel flute, and a race car capable of reaching speeds up to 150km/h, printed by students of a Chinese university.
The full extent of what can be achieved with 3D printing remains to be seen, as well as how much it will influence the mass-manufacturing industry, but it provides a new and exciting option for both manufacturing companies and consumers.
